The latest update in the Paris Hilton drug arrest drama is that she’s being charged with possession of a controlled substance.

And the nature and amount of the substance – .8 grams of cocaine- means that the “Simple Life” babe is looking at a felony when the D.A. files the case later today (August 30).

Hilton landed in hot water after being detained by police for being in a car smelling like marijuana smoke. She asked to be taken into a nearby hotel where she tried to take her purse into the bathroom.

A police rep told TMZ, “As she began to open it, I saw a small bindle of what I believed to be cocaine in a clear baggie begin to fall from the purse and into my hand.”

Of course, Paris is maintaining that the drugs weren’t hers and that she borrowed the purse from a friend, not knowing the cocaine was in there.
